Los Angeles
We had decided to stay in the Marina Del Ray area since I'd been there many years before, so we got a reservation at the Doubletree Hotel MDR on Maxella Avenue. It was pretty good.
Close by was an interesting vertical wall beside the escalator.

We walked to dinner that night and watched the yachts.
The next morning we went shopping and saw this rare Ural Russian motorcycle in mint condition (from the 1970's)
The shopping complex had a double-decker streetcar shuttling along the promenade, and there were some nice restorations of bygone days.
Then it was off to the George W. Page Museum at the LaBrea tarpits in the center of downtown. Tar still oozes up around the new sidewalk, and they still recover intact skeletons of prehistoric creatures from the tar.
Pretty big jaws and teeth on a Saber-toothed cat

Here are some big teeth, the size of Apollo Moon Boots!
Prehistoric turtles from 200 million years ago must have had a pretty good design, as our present day turtles still do just fine, especially when sunning themselves in the museum's gardens.

Ten thousand centuries is just a blink in time when you consider that this little guy came to us through a line of way more than 2 million parents over that 2 million centuries.

At least it wasn't on a brown UPS truck...
A final highlight of our tour around was a trip to Venice Beach. FIrst of all we rented bikes and cruised the boardwalk.

It's quite the place for seeing interesting people.
Some people are just natural clotheshorses.

We had a great trip and met very nice people. The San Jacinto area is gorgeous, as is Joshua Tree. If you're inclined to explore new areas of California, think about them- it's a great destination.
